Amara Kanu's Global African Students Education Summit (GASES)

Amara Kanu, of course, is the stunning wife of legendary Nigerian footballer, Kanu Nwankwo. She's been working on this project for a while. It's called Global African Students Education Summit (GASES). Amara is coming to the end of her Masters degree in Entrepreneurial Management in the European Business School London and noticed that all the Africans she's come in contact with are spread out in different directions and no common platform to build upon knowledge and share experience to make things better. Hence the idea of GASES!

Read what Amara said about GASES below...
It's a pioneer summit I'm involved in- bringing all African students together to share best practices, network and gain opportunity for scholarships and mentoring.

I put together a small team is and we managed to pull about 80 people to attend the first summit which took place on Saturday at the University College London (UCL)
This year, the theme was celebrating the Rich African Education Narratives, telling our stories....
We also awarded 35 presidents and Vice Presidents of Student Unions in British universities who are African. Majority which are Nigerian students (see program brochure attached). I think this is amazing considering the fact that we are in the U.K. And this year alone, 44 Africans are holding excellent leadership positions in U.K. Universities. I think this needs to be encouraged thus the reason for GASES and my concern for more collaboration between Africans to sustain the leadership of our African future....

Mrs Chika Balogun director general of the Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Nigeria also came from Nigeria to deliver a Keynote Speech. Another remarkable speech was given by the SUP of Cambridge University, Amatey who is a Ghanaian. How amazing!
DAAD- the largest scholarship body in the world based in Germany sent in their rep Dr Birk from Germany to deliver a presentation on how they would like to work with more African scholars exchanges and universities.I've also been working with Dr Ayobami who is a product of university PhD scholarship from Nigeria to Germany and now a lecturer at Hatfield University has also been helpful in coordinating with me.

Next year we hope to have GASES Africa to celebrate once again excellence in education and encourage knowledge interaction and inspire the young ones to keep going.

Woman reportedly drugged with poison-laced flyer along busy Nairobi road

An unsuspecting young woman on Wednesday, October 26th, became a victim of a conman and their trickery after being given a flyer along Uhuru Highway.
According to local media reports, she was stuck in traffic when a man approached her and started talking to her about the benefits of losing weight and then handed her a flyer before disappearing.
Moments later, she started feeling dizzy and decided to park her car on the side of the road to seek help from passers-by. It was then discovered that the flyer she was given had been laced with poison.
Police arrived at the scene and the woman was taken to a medical centre for examination.

Another dancer speaks, narrates her ordeal with Davido

davido kaffyFollowing Kaffy’s outburst yesterday, several dancers have been peaking on the challenges of their trade. The latest dancer to speak is US-based Sarah. She was one of the dancers Davido used at the One Africa Music fest and also one of those that Davido kicked off. She narrated her ordeal with the pop star in a long note on her Instagram page but apparently, Davido is not the only problem!
RESPECT THE DANCER! At this point people need to take their time to listen and read before commenting. This entire situation about Nigerian artists disrespecting dancers is far beyond ‘DavidO’. @kaffydance used the reoccurring events of Davids disrespect as an example of how a lot of Nigerian musicians (not all) do not appreciate dancers and our contributions to their crafts ( stage, music Videos or even promo social media videos).
Being that I was part of the first incident at the One Africa Music Fest ( NewYork) I know how I felt when David decided right as we were walking on stage that he no longer wanted dancers. I personally felt disrespected and felt like he had no regards for my artistry as a dancer.
At this point we all were upset and had to change right in the stadium, in front of all these people. Then @kaffydance tells his manager that he’ll still have to pay the dancers because of our time wasted ( dressed and on stage) then his manager runs back to us and said ” He still wants dancers, he just didn’t want the for the first song.
Tell them to get on for the next songs” Irritated and stressed we still got up there and did what we had to do. Fast forward a few weeks later, Kaffy had to pay the dancers out of her own pocket. I know this Cus I was there and I did the transfer to the dancers. Kaffy NEVER GOT PAID!
While David’s manager kept telling her he’ll pay soon only for David to finally tell her that he’s NOT PAYING! Please tell me why she wouldn’t be pissed off? This is not about 3thrones (that was just him disrespecting dancers at rehearsals) this is about the never ending disrespect and underpaying of dancers in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Y’all WE NEED TO FIX THIS! Coming for Kaffy is not the issue and DavidO is not the issue. This is like a plague that needs to be flushed out of the system. I am not saying kaffy doesn’t have her faults (we all have our faults) but this is not a kaffy thing – it’s a dancer thing 😑.
RESPECT THE DANCER – PAY THE DANCER – ACKNOWLEDGE THE DANCER! #dancersnotbeggers #respectthedancer #SayRah #Rahnation #paythedancer #234dancetv

God told me we will buy bag of rice for N5,000, dollar will exchange for N150 and fuel will sell for N30 - Prophet Okeowo

Prophet Ade Okeowo of Word of Liberty Evangelical Ministry, Ikorodu, Lagos, said that God revealed to him that prices of commodities will crash in no time.
He made the revelation in a chat with National Encomium, urging Nigerians to stop blaming President Buhari for the economic crisis, as he needs time to fix the country.

"That’s what God has revealed to me. Listen to me attentively; I am not speaking my words but God’s, Prophet Okeowo said. "Now, people buy rice N25, 000 per bag but God told me that we’re going to buy a bag of rice as cheap as N5, 000. A US dollar will exchange for as low as N150 and fuel will sell for as low as N30 or N40 per litre. That’s what God said will happen in this country."
He, however, said that God did not specify if the revelation would come to pass under Buhari’s regime.
"God didn’t tell me that one but He revealed to me all of these and more beautiful things will happen after all the pain, but Buhari’s efforts will lead to that. Nigeria will be forced to a stage of break up but God will intervene."
The Prophet further urged Nigerians not to blame the President for the economic woes.
"We should not blame anybody. People should not even hold Buhari responsible at all. From what God has revealed to me, He sent Buhari to Nigerians as an angel. God has also revealed to me that Buhari shouldn’t be worried, that everything will soon be alright. God showed me that Nigeria is like a second hand car (Tokunbo).
We all know that if you buy a second hand car, it’s surely not in a perfect state. You will be fixing this today, that tomorrow until it’s fully fit. And it’s not something that will be done overnight.
We all need to understand that if we want the country to move forward. Buhari is the one buying all the spare parts to repair the damaged car called Nigeria. By the time he completes the repair, the vehicle will move and everybody will enjoy it. That’s just the parable of Nigeria’s situation now. Everything will soon be alright. There are many Josephs that God is going to use to uplift this country, and Buhari is one of them."
Recalling the other prophecies of his that have also come to pass in recent times, the Prophet said:
"I predicted the Olympic soccer final. I said Germany would defeat Nigeria, it came to pass. I even said it’s going to be 2-0. I said the gold medal was for Brazil, they all came to pass.
I predicted President Jonathan would lose the 2015 presidential election, a lot of people didn’t believe it. Even some prophets almost bet their lives on it that Buhari would lose, but it was revealed to me that Buhari would win and he won. Even, God revealed to me that no matter what other governorship candidates in Oyo do, Abiola Ajimobi will emerge victorious and it came to pass. I still have a message for him.”
The prophet concluded by saying:
"God told me to warn Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State to beware of the way he chose his commissioners so that they will not destroy his government.
Also, Governor Amosun of Ogun State should be careful of some people in the state, because some of them are hell bent in destroying his government as well."

Bill Gate explains why he won’t be leaving his £70 billion fortune to his children when he dies

World richest man, Bill Gate who plans to leave most of his £70 billion fortune to helping the poorest when he dies, will only help his children: Jennifer, 20, Rory, 17 and Phoebe, 14 in attaining great education to kick start their respective careers.

Speaking on This Morning in an interview, where he gave the rare insight of his fortune, the Microsoft founder who feels that leaving his wealth to his children will distorts their careers, said they are also proud of his decision.
'They are never going to be poorly off, our kids will receive a great education and some money so they are never going to be poorly off but they'll go out and have their own career. It's not a favour to kids to have them have huge sums of wealth. It distorts anything they might do, creating their own path. This money is dedicated to helping the poorest. They know that, they are proud of that, they go on trips with us to see the work that's being done.'
According to reports, most of the fortune will be credited to his family charity, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which funds health and education projects around the world.

Gambia announces withdrawal from International Criminal Court

The government of Gambia has announced its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, accusing the world body of ignoring the war crimes of Western nations and seeking only to prosecute Africans.

The announcement on Tuesday, October 25th by the West African nation, whose president, Yahya Jammeh, has called on the court to investigate African migrant deaths on the Mediterranean, comes just days after South Africa said it was quitting The Hague-based tribunal.

"This action is warranted by the fact that the ICC, despite being called the International Criminal Court, is in fact an International Caucasian Court for the persecution and humiliation of people of colour, especially Africans," Information Minister Sheriff Bojang said on state television.

He noted the case of the former British prime minister Tony Blair, whom the ICC decided not to indict over the Iraq war.

"There are many Western countries, at least 30, that have committed heinous war crimes against independent sovereign states and their citizens since the creation of the ICC and not a single Western war criminal has been indicted," Bojang said.

The ICC has had to fight off allegations of pursuing a neo-colonial agenda in Africa, where all but one of its 10 investigations have been based. Burundi has already said it plans to leave and Kenya's parliament is considering following suit.

The statement from Gambia, whose citizens make up a disproportionately high proportion of the African migrant flow to Europe, said it had sought to bring the European Union before the ICC over the deaths of migrants but received no response.

The ICC's current chief prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, (pictured) is Gambian and was as an adviser to Jammeh in the early years of his rule after he seized power in a coup in 1994. She later served as justice minister.

The Court at the weekend asked South Africa and Burundi to reconsider their decisions to leave. In a statement, Sidiki Kaba, president of the assembly of state parties to the ICC founding treaty, said:

"I urge them to work together with other states in the fight against impunity, which often causes massive violations of human rights,"

Kaba said he was concerned that South Africa and Burundi’s decisions would pave the way for other African states to leave the court.

"The tribunal is tasked with prosecuting the most serious crimes that shock the conscience of humanity, namely genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression,"

Kaba criticised Burundi and South Africa accusing them of giving leaders on the continent a free hand to commit genocide.

"Burundi is leaving the ICC to keep committing crimes against humanity and possible genocide in its territory. Burundi’s president wants free hands to attack civilians," he said.

He added that the former South African president Nelson Mandela had "promoted the establishment of the court to avoid new massive crimes in Africa. Now under the Zuma leadership South Africa decided to cover up the crimes and abandoned African victims. The world is going backward."

"The chaos is coming. Genocide in Burundi and a new African war are in motion," he concluded.
